We are pleased to announce the successful defense of Chiara Geron’s Master’s thesis in Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Torino (Class of 2022), supervised by Prof. Daniela Tordella. Her thesis, titled "Neighbour Statistical Analysis for the Dispersion in Clouds by the Means of Mini Green Radiosonde," was developed within the framework of the EU Horizon 2020 MSCA ITN ETN COMPLETE project.
Chiara’s research contributes to a deeper understanding of the physical processes inside warm clouds—key players in the Earth’s water cycle and energy balance. Her work addresses the complex and still uncertain mechanisms of cloud formation and droplet dispersion, particularly at the microscale level where turbulence and non-linear phenomena dominate.
Through the COMPLETE project, innovative biodegradable mini radiosondes have been developed to collect high-resolution Lagrangian data on temperature, humidity, pressure, and motion within clouds. Chiara’s thesis focused on analyzing this data using neighbour statistical methods to investigate particle dispersion and cloud dynamics. Her results provide valuable insights into how individual droplets interact and spread in turbulent atmospheric environments.
We congratulate Chiara on this important achievement and on her contribution to advancing atmospheric research and environmental monitoring technologies.
